We started the session with a talk by Michelle about Easter Eggs. She explained the origin of Easter Eggs and the ways of celebrating Easter in different countries around the

The egg symbolises Christ’s resurrectionand his exit from the tomb,like the little chick coming out of his egg.
Inoldentimes there was a traditionthat giving painted eggs to somebody broughtgoodluck and announced the Spring.
Egg painting began on the Thursday before Easter. They were painted red,laid the same day and kept like alucky charm.
During lent we didn’t eat eggs,they were kept and decorated as an offering on Easter day.
The decorating technique was to draw a pattern with a pencil. Wax is put onwhere you don’t want colour then thecolouris applied by dippingthe eggina bath oflight colour. Itis left to dry before putting onmore wax and dippingin a second baThis process is repeated drying,wax,colours.
Afterwards we heat up the egg inan ovenor over the flame of a candle to melt the wax and now the colours appear.

In XVIII,fresh eggswere emptied and filledwith liquid chocolate,a mixture of sugar, cocoa butter and chocolate powder.
